Shorewood Elementary School Policies & Procedures

It is the parents' responsibility to contact the Shorewood office at 815-577-7312 when your child will be absent from school. Please call our office before 8:35 am with your child's name, teacher's name, and the reason for the absence. Our policy states that students who have not been called in by an adult will have an unexcused absence on their record.

All students who leave the school early or are picked up from school are required to be signed out in the office by an adult. Please be prepared to show your photo ID. Unless it is an emergency, we must have a note from the parent at the start of the school day.  If your child is to be picked up early, he/she will need to be signed out in the office by a parent/guardian.  

Parents of Pre-School, Kindergarten, and New Students, please remember we need proof of immunizations and a recent physical on file before the first day of school. Students will be excluded from school without these. Please refer to the Student/Parent Handbook for additional information.

Morning Arrival Procedures for Car Riders

• Vehicles arriving to drop off students for the morning arrival are to enter off Route 59 onto Sarah Avenue and proceed east to Helene Street.  Vehicles will turn left and head north on Helene Street to School Street.  At this point cars will turn right and head east into the parking lot of the Shorewood Church of God.  Stop before entering the Shorewood Lot.
• At the entrance to the Church of God parking lot, vehicles are to turn right and proceed through the parking lot to the exit that allows access to the Shorewood Elementary School parking lot. Check to see if the "Drop-Off /Pick-Up Zone" is full. If it is full, you are to wait at this point, leaving a pathway for emergency vehicles and buses to arrive and leave. Immediately upon entering the school parking lot, all vehicles are to turn left.
• Wait for the staff member to wave you on before proceeding north in the parking lot to the "Drop-off/Pick-Up Zone."
• Once in the "Drop-off/Pick-Up Zone," your vehicle transmission should be in park and students may exit your vehicle when a staff member directs you. Staff members will start unloading vehicles at 8:2O am. Please do not drop off students prior to this time as there will be no supervision or staff available until 8:20. All drivers must remain in their vehicles, unless you need to unfasten a car seat.
• All students will enter the building through Door #2.
• When the student(s) have been released from your car, check your left side to ensure no buses are coming through and proceed around the north end of Shorewood Elementary School and exit the school using Dante Court. Vehicles will not be allowed to drive behind Shorewood Elementary School or exit the school grounds via School Road.

Afternoon Dismissal Procedures for Car Riders

• All students who are car riders (picked up by car after school) will be dismissed from Door #2.
• Vehicles arriving to pick-up students for the afternoon dismissal are to enter off Route 59 onto Sarah Lane and proceed east to Helene Street.  Vehicles then turn left onto Helene Street and head north to School Street.  At this point cars will turn right and head east on School Street to the parking lot of the Shorewood Church of God. Stop before entering the Shorewood Lot. It is preferred that all families picking up by car follow the line, not park and walk to the doors.
• At the entrance to the Church of God parking lot, vehicles are to turn right and proceed through the parking lot to the exit that allows access to the Shorewood Elementary School parking lot.  Check to see if the "Drop-Off /Pick-Up Zone" is full. If it is full, you are to wait at this point, leaving a pathway for emergency vehicles and buses to arrive and leave. Immediately upon entering the school parking lot, alI vehicles are to turn left.
• Wait for the staff member to wave you on before proceeding north in the parking lot to the "Drop-off/Pick-Up Zone."
• Once in the "Drop-off/Pick-Up Zone", your vehicle transmission should be in park and students may enter your vehicle. All drivers must remain in their vehicles, unless you need to fasten a car seat.
• When the student(s) have been properly secured in the vehicle, you may proceed around the north end of Shorewood Elementary School and exit the school using Dante Court. Vehicles will not be allowed to drive behind Shorewood Elementary School or exit the school grounds via School Road.
